Haley Stamats is a director for opera and theater. Critics say she,

In 2026-2027, Stamats returns to Opera Delaware and Opera Baltimore to lead their co-production of Don Giovanni, and to Austin Opera as Associate Director for Thaïs. In January, Stamats returns to Pittsburgh Opera to direct a new production of Partenope. She then makes her directing debut with Piedmont Opera remounting her production of Il Barbiere di Siviglia that premiered last season at Charleston Opera Theater.

Her 2025–2026 season opens with Le Nozze di Figaro at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where she serves as Assistant Director and Intimacy Director. She then returns to Opera Baltimore and Opera Delaware to direct Tosca. In January, she makes her debut at Austin Opera as Assistant Director for Fiddler on the Roof, followed by her return to Charleston Opera Theater to direct Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Her season ends with her directorial debut at Madison Opera directing Così fan tutte. This season also marks her first collaboration with Marywood University, directing the Opera Scenes Program.

Her 2024-2025 season featuredthree directorial debuts with consecutive productions of La Bohème at Opera Delaware, Opera Baltimore, and Charleston Opera Theater. She also directed a new production of Armida with Pittsburgh Opera, returned to Opera Baltimore to direct a semi-staged Maria Stuarda, and made her directorial debut at Shreveport Opera with Carmen. In addition, she assistant directed La Bohème at Opera Colorado as a first-time collaboration with the company. This past summer, Stamats made her Spoleto Festival debut as Associate Director for Thaïs and joined Des Moines Metro Opera as Assistant Director for The Cunning Little Vixen.

In 2023-2024, Stamats returned to Pittsburgh Opera for her second season as Resident Artist Stage Director. She helmed two new productions: Gluck’s Iphigénie en Tauride and Mazzoli’s Proving Up. Additionally, she served as assistant director for the productions of Il barbiere di Siviglia, Der fliegende Holländer, and La Traviata. In March 2024, she associate directed a new production of Florencia en el Amazonas at Opera San José.

In May 2024, Stamats returned to Arizona Opera, where she directed excerpts from Hector Armienta’s Zorro and Ricky Ian Gordon’s Intimate Apparel for the New Works Festival. She also joined Wolf Trap Opera as a Directing Fellow. There, she assistant directed the productions of Così fan tutte and Silent Night, in addition to directing the Studio Spotlight scenes program.
