Haley Stamats is an opera director based in the US. Her breadth of directing work includes new works, both conventional and experimental, as well classical repertoire with numerous opera companies in the US and England. 


She will begin her 2019-2020 season at Virginia Opera to assistant direct their back-to-back productions of Tosca and Il Postino. She then makes her debut with Resonance Works / Pittsburgh  directing their annual Amahl & the Night Visitors and returns to Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre to direct their outreach show, Enchanted Forest. In January 2020, she travels to Albuquerque to remount Il Postino at Opera Southwest. She then returns to Virginia Opera to assistant direct their production of Aida and makes her directing debut at VO with their production of Scalia/Ginsburg. She ends her season by making her debut with Arizona Opera directing the Marion Roose Pullin Opera Studio scenes program in April.


This summer, she will be at The Glimmerglass Festival to assistant direct their production of Don Giovanni. For her  2020-2021 season, she returns to Arizona Opera as their first MarionRoose Pullin Opera Studio resident assistant director where she'll assist on their productions of The Copper Queen (World Premiere), El Milgaro del Recuerdo, Carmen, A Streetcar Named Desire, and The Elixir of Love


Her 2018-2019 season began with directing two new work pieces, Between Constellations and Rain, as a part of the Mosaic Opera Showcase at Grimeborn Opera Festival in London, England. She then returned to Virginia Opera in the fall to assistant direct their production of Don Giovanni. In the beginning of 2019, she traveled to Santa Barbara to assistant direct Eugene Onegin with Opera Santa Barbara. She ended her season by making her mainstage stage directing debut at Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre with their world premiere of The Grant Wood Operas: Strokes of Genius.


She holds a B.A. in music with a theatre emphasis from Simpson College.
